About Me

My photo
After we've completed a house, it's amazing how many people say "Isn't it great how it all came together!"... as if by accident. This is a very small look into how it all "comes together".

Take me to the water

Like most people we have always been drawn to the water.

The best thing about our block is that we will be able to see water from just about every room in the house. I can't wait to sit on our deck with a cold Prosecco in hand and watch the river.

It's not Positano (our favourite place on earth) or Monterosso, Byron or Cottlesloe but it's water!

The Slab

It's very exciting to see a freshly poured slab!

Our slabs are monolith slabs, so all internal and external areas are completed in one concrete pour. Note the step-downs & the different levels of concrete. This gives the slab (and eventually the house level) a more seamless finish. It's one of (the many) aspects of building that we are very fussy about!

The Pool and The Footings

The kids were keen to get in to the Pool straight away.
We usually use Salt Water, but are using Fresh Water for this pool.  The Salt Water has been great for the house we are in at the moment however, this pool will have frameless glass fencing around 3 sides of the pool with the view to the water facing west. I personally don't want to have to clean it too often (like we did with our last house). We are yet to find out if Fresh Water will solve this problem... but it's worth a try!

When the footings are complete, it's slab time!!! (weather permitting).
The slab is a huge milestone.

Pile Driving

Pile Driving is extremely loud and no doubt annoying for the neighbours (although apparently louder for the people who live on the other side of the river) however, a very comforting sound for us! We are also building the house next door for a client, and another house a few doors away. With the pile driving being completed in succession, I'm sure there were more than a few people cursing us! I have several friends living in the same street (and next door) and fortunately they are still friends with me after the piling.
